Nathan Ball

Nathan "Nate" Barker Ball (born May 13, 1983 in Newport, Oregon) works as a host on the PBS Kids show Design Squad. Ball has appeared in an episode of Myth Busters, a History Channel special on Batman technology, and in an insurance advertisement.

He holds two degrees in mechanical engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a B.S. (2005) and an M.S. (2007).

He won the Lemelson-MIT Prize in 2007.

He co-founded a business to develop the ATLAS Powered Rope Ascender, a tool he helped create that enables "reverse rappelling" up vertical surfaces at high speed.

He is listed as the co-inventor on 6 patent applications.

He is a two-time NCAA All-American pole-vaulter and MIT’s indoor/outdoor record holder in the sport, with records of 16' 6" indoor and 16' 8 ¾" outdoor.
