Naivasha

Naivasha, lake, 12 mi (19.3 km) long and 9 mi (14.5 km) wide, W central Kenya, E Africa, in the Great Rift Valley. Large flower farms that supply European flower markets have been developed near the lake, and their irrigation systems have been blamed for the significant drop in the lake's water level since 1975. Located near Nairobi, the lake and the town of Naivasha are a popular resort.

Naivasha is a market town in Rift Valley Province, Kenya, lying north west of Nairobi. It is located on the shore of Lake Naivasha and along the Nairobi - Nakuru highway and Uganda Railway.

Naivasha is part of the Nakuru District. The town has an urban population of 14,563 (1999 census).

The main industry is agriculture, especially floriculture.

Naivasha is also a popular tourist destination. Hell's Gate National Park, Longonot National Park and Mount Longonot are nearby attractions. Tours also have included Lake Naivasha, to observe birdlife and hippopotamus behavior, as well as other wild animals.

A resort in Naivasha was the location for much of the negotiations of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement ending the Second Sudanese Civil War, commonly known as the "Naivasha Agreement".
