Fort Churchill

Fort Churchill, named for Sylvester Churchill, was a U.S. Army fort built in 1861 to provide protection for early settlers. It was abandoned in 1869 with the State of Nevada obtaining control of the site on October 6, 1932.

It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1961. The remains of the fort are decaying adobe ruins.

Twice a year the Nevada Civil War Volunteers put on a civil war encampment at Fort Churchill.
