N.E.C

N.E.C. (football club)

N.E.C., short for Nijmegen Eendracht Combinatie, is a Dutch football club.

The oldest predecessor of the club, "Eendracht" (Dutch for unity), was established on November 15, 1900. In 1903, Eendracht merged with Nijmegen to form the Nijmegen Eendracht Combinatie. The team's home ground is the 12,500 seater McDOS Goffertstadion.

The club has not won any major tournaments to date although they managed to attain runners-up placing in the KNVB Cup competition in 1973, 1983, 1994 and 2000 and to play some games in the UEFA Cup in 1983, 2003 and 2008. Since 2003 the club is growing extremely fast and the stadium is sold-out every game.

Stadium and supporters

You can find the most die-hard supporters at the "Hazenkamp tribune" (north-stand) and the "Goffert tribune" (east stand). There are three known supporter-groups called the HKN (HazenKamp Nijmegen, sometimes dubbed Harde Kern NEC (hardcore NEC)), Supportersvereniging and Legio Noviomagum (NEC TIFO-group). Before the matches the supporters come together in their pub called "Goffertzicht" (Goffertsight). The Goffert-stadium will be upgraded in 2011 because of the increasing attendance.

Rivals

Football club Vitesse of Arnhem is the main rival of NEC Nijmegen. The annual games between the two are called De Gelderse derby (The Gelder derby).
