Mosocho Academy

Mosocho Academy is a private school in the south-western part of Kenya in Bogusero North location, Mosocho division in the Kisii Central District of Nyanza Province. Started in 1985 by the late long serving member of parliament for Kitutu Chache, Dr. Z. T. Onyonka. At its initiation it was a primary boys boarding admitting pupils right from standard one to eight. in 1989 the school expanded to include the secondary section which admitted its first batch of students in forms one and two that year. The form twos however were not allowed to proceed to form two the following year as their performance was perceived to be weak. The Academy was an academic giant for some time, for example in 1992, the first K.C.S.E exam sat, the school emerged top twenty best in the country with Richard Anyegah Gitaga as the leading candidate followed by Leanard Obeto Juma . From then the schools attracted students from all over the country. Good performance continued for a time until in 1996. Decline in academic standards visited the school immediately after the death of the proprietor Dr Hon Z. T. Onyonka in 1996. However, inept financial and academic leadership drove it to almost financial ruin. It was bought in 2001, after the death of Onyonka, by an educational entrepreneur of Indian origin. The school has undergone several changes, it stopped admitting boarding students and became a mixed secondary school. Many of the students and pupils who schooled at the academy have excelled in various fields both within and outside the country.
