A minitruck is a compact pickup built for light duty, equipped with a four or six cylinder engine from the factory that has been modified and customised often with an emphasis on acheiving the lowest ride height possible.
Original modifications included lowering the truck by any means possible, such as heating or removing leaf springs, cutting coils from coil springs, and cranking down torsion keys to lower the front. These methods usually result in a harsh, bouncy ride.
As minitrucks increasingly grew in popularity, modifications became more extreme. Modern modifications include airbag suspension, body drops and shaving.
Minitrucking owes a lot of it's heritage to the original Hot Rod enthusiasts and modern minitruck modification methods are very similar to traditional Hot Rodding methods.
