is a Democratic member of the New York State Assembly
. He was first elected in 1992 as its youngest member. Due to the state’s reapportionment plan, his seat was eliminated later that same year. However, he ran and won again in 1994, serving until 2004 as a Republican representing the 93th district, which includes parts of Yonkers
. After stepping down for one term, he successfully ran again in 2006. He is the son of former County Clerk Len Spano and brother of former New York State Senator Nicholas Spano
, who was defeated in 2006 by Andrea Stewart-Cousins
. In July 2007 Mike Spano switched parties to become a Democrat.
Spano is married to anchor Mary Calvi of WCBS-TV in New York City.
