Jacques Celestine Songo'o (born March 17, 1964 in Sakbayenne) was a Cameroonian football goalkeeper.
Club career
After growing to fame with
Ligue 1 outfit
FC Metz, he arguably lived his most successful period at
Spanish club
Deportivo de La Coruña, where won the
1996-97 Zamora Trophy (awarded to the best goalkeeper of the season). When Deportivo bought
José Francisco Molina in 2000, Songo'o soon lost his place and was eventually transferred to old club Metz.
After two seasons, he returned to Depor and A Coruña, where he settled after having retired from football, at 40.
International career
Songo'o featured for
Cameroon in every
World Cup from 1990 to 2002, although only as first choice in
the 1998 edition. He was also a member of the Cameroonian squad that competed at the
1984 Summer Olympics in
Los Angeles, California.
Personal
Songo'o also has
French citizenship. His son, former French U-19 international
Franck who switched nationality to Cameroon in 2008, is also a footballer, currently playing as a
midfielder at
Portsmouth F.C..
