Jacques Songo'o

Jacques Celestine Songo'o (born March 17, 1964 in Sakbayenne) was a Cameroonian football goalkeeper.

Club career

After growing to fame with Ligue 1 outfit FC Metz, he arguably lived his most successful period at Spanish club Deportivo de La Coruña, where won the 1996-97 Zamora Trophy (awarded to the best goalkeeper of the season). When Deportivo bought José Francisco Molina in 2000, Songo'o soon lost his place and was eventually transferred to old club Metz.

After two seasons, he returned to Depor and A Coruña, where he settled after having retired from football, at 40.

International career

Songo'o featured for Cameroon in every World Cup from 1990 to 2002, although only as first choice in the 1998 edition. He was also a member of the Cameroonian squad that competed at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California.

Personal

Songo'o also has French citizenship. His son, former French U-19 international Franck who switched nationality to Cameroon in 2008, is also a footballer, currently playing as a midfielder at Portsmouth F.C..
