Medair

Medair is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) of humanitarian aid founded in 1989. It is independent of any political, economic or social authority. Its internationally recruited staff members are committed Christians. The organisation provides aid to the most vulnerable, irrespective of race, gender, religion, age, or nationality. Its international headquarters are based in Switzerland. The mission of Medair is to respond to human suffering in emergency and disaster situations by implementing multisectoral relief and rehabilitation projects, in a compassionate and serving attitude inspired by its Christian ethos.

The organisation has obtained the 2000 certification at world wide level for its quality management system.

Geographical spread

Medair employs 50 people in Switzerland, United Kingdom, Germany, France and The Netherlands. In the field, 110 full-time expatriates help populations in difficulty, with the support of 980 local employees. The organisation serves over 2.5 million beneficiaries a year. It operates from its headquarters in Switzerland and currently delivers nine programmes in eight African and Asian countries.

The organisation currently has programs running in Sudan, Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo, Madagascar, Afghanistan, Somalia and Indonesia.

Recent programs have been run in Albania, Angola, Armenia, Bangladesh, Chad, Chechnya, India, Ingushetia, Iraq, Iran, Kenya, Kosovo, Liberia, Mozambique, Ossetia, Rwanda, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Zimbabwe.
