McLoud, Oklahoma

McLoud is a town in Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma, United States, and is part of the Oklahoma City Consolidated Metropolitan Area. The population was 3,548 at the 2000 census.

McLoud is located at (35.412200, -97.098400).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 18.4 square miles (47.7 km²), of which, 18.3 square miles (47.5 km²) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.2 km²) of it (0.43%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 3,548 people, 988 households, and 763 families residing in the town. The population density was 193.4 people per square mile (74.7/km²). There were 1,096 housing units at an average density of 59.8/sq mi (23.1/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 71.98% White, 8.09% African American, 11.95% Native American, 0.37% Asian, 0.99% Pacific Islander, 0.76% from other races, and 5.86% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.76% of the population.

There were 988 households out of which 36.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.0% were married couples living together, 13.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 22.7% were non-families. 20.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.68 and the average family size was 3.09.

In the town the population was spread out with 21.5% under the age of 18, 9.5% from 18 to 24, 38.7% from 25 to 44, 19.9% from 45 to 64, and 10.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 58.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 49.0 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $32,475, and the median income for a family was $37,138. Males had a median income of $30,431 versus $20,667 for females. The per capita income for the town was $12,774. About 11.6% of families and 13.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 15.5% of those under age 18 and 16.3% of those age 65 or over.
