Maydh is one of the major towns of the Sanaag province of northwestern Somalia. It has an estimated population of 30,000 residents.

The town was first populated by non-Somali tribes like the Oromo. Later, Somali ancestors came to the area. Perhaps the most important of these was Sheikh Isahaq (Sheekh Isaxaaq), a famous Somali sheikh who, according to tradition, moved to Somalia from Arabia in the 12th or 13th century AD. Sheikh Isahaq is considered the founding father of the large Isaaq clan that inhabits mainly the northwestern Somaliland region of Somalia, as well as the Somali Region of Ethiopia and Djibouti. Maydh now is the major town for the Habar Yoonis lineage of Isaaq, and the tomb of Sheikh Isahaq is also located here.

There is one elementary school and one middle school. Maydh does not have a secondary school. There are no health facilities in the town. The closest hospital is the Ceerigaabo General Hospital about to the southeast.

Maydh Island is about to the NNE in the Gulf of Aden
