Maxwell Montes

Maxwell Montes

Maxwell Montes is a mountain massif on the planet Venus, part of which contains the highest point on the planet's surface. Located on Ishtar Terra, the more northern of the planet's two major highlands, it is 11,000 meters high. It is named for James Clerk Maxwell, and is, along with Alpha Regio and Beta Regio, one of three exceptions of the rule that Venusian surface features are named for women or goddesses. Due to its elevation is the coolest (about 380°C) and least pressurised (about 60 bar) location on the surface of Venus.
