Maritzburg United is a South African football (soccer) club based in the city of Pietermaritzburg that currently competes in the National First Division, Coastal Stream. During the 2005-06 season Maritzburg United bought Tembisa Classic's franchise to become part of the Premier Soccer League. They were relegated to the National First Division after the 06/07 season. However, after only one season in the National First Division, they were promoted back to the Premier Soccer League by winning the Coastal Stream and defeating FC AK in the National First Division Playoffs.
