Dr. Tamargo is Professor of Chemistry and the Dean of Science at City College of New York. Dr. Tamargo received her education at the University of Puerto Rico and Johns Hopkins University. She is also the author of over 200 papers in the field of semiconductor research and is the holder of numerous patents in her field.
She is married to Mac Maxfield and has two children. Her cousin is Mauricio J. Tamargo, the 14th Chairman of the Foreign Claims Settlement Commission. Her parents were Cuban exiles who left Cuba after the 1959 revolution.
