There are two bands called The Marginal Prophets. One is a Celtic band from Southern Germany and the other is a Hip-Hop band from San Francisco.

The (Celtic) Marginal Prophets

The Southern Germany-based Marginal Prophets were founded in 1991 by Harry Reed and Peter Corbett. For their first CD, A Jar of Whiskey and a Glass of Beer, they were joined by Jim Klopfenstein. In 1994, Reed and Klopfenstein recorded A Slow Return, joined by Brian McNeil, formerly of Battlefield Band.

They presently perform mainly as a duo, but often expand to a trio or quartet.

The (Hip-Hop) Marginal Prophets

The San Francisco-based Marginal Prophets are Keith Knight and the Noble Def G on the microphones, Adam Lodge on bass, drummer Adam Lipsky, and guitarist Jeff Ranney. Their CD Bohemian Rap CD (a play on the song Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen) was awarded the 2004 California Music Award for Outstanding Rap Album. However, they are still an unsigned band. Keith Knight is a nationally syndicated cartoonist; the illustrator/writer/producer of two weekly comic strips, the K Chronicles and (th)ink.
