Margarella turneri

Margarella turneri is a species of marine gastropod mollusc in the family Trochidae, the top shells.

This top shell is endemic to New Zealand's Stewart Island.

It is found on seaweed covered rocks at low tide, but never under kelp holdfasts.

Shell description

The shell is globose, with little expansion of the last whorl, imperforate, but with a narrow crescentic, callus-filled umbilical depression.

Coloration is purplish-brown or reddish zigzag axial bands, often crossed by several pink spiral lines, the whole on a pinkish-white to creamy ground. The interior of the aperture is greenish iridescent.

The maximum shell height is 8.5 mm, and width 9 mm.
