The MBTA Boat system is a public boat service providing water transport in the Greater Boston area via Boston Harbor. Both inner harbor and longer distance commuter ferries are operated. The services are actually operated by private sector companies under contract to the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA).

In FY2005, the MBTA boat system carried 4,650 passengers (0.41% of total MBTA passengers) per weekday.

Routes

• F1 – Service from Rowes Wharf in downtown Boston to Hingham, operated by Boston Harbor Cruises.
• F2 and F2H – Services from Long Wharf in downtown Boston and Logan International Airport to Hull and Quincy, operated by Water Transportation Alternatives under the brand Harbor Express.

Inner harbor route

• F4 – Service from Long Wharf in downtown Boston to the Boston Navy Yard in Charlestown, operated by Boston Harbor Cruises.
