The
Lockinge Stakes is a
Group 1 flat horse race in the
United Kingdom open to
thoroughbreds which are four-years-old or above. It is run over a distance of 1 mile (1,609 metres) at
Newbury Racecourse, and it takes place annually in May.
It was first run in 1958, and when the Pattern system was introduced in 1971 it was given Group 2 status. Three-year-olds were eligible to run prior to 1995, at which point the race was upgraded to a Group 1 for older horses only. The leading performers often race next in the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot. The race is currently sponsored by Juddmonte Farms.
