Lamoricière, Christophe Léon Louis Juchault de

Lamoricière, Christophe Léon Louis Juchault de, 1806-65, French general. Important in the conquest of Algeria, he distinguished himself at the head of his celebrated Zouaves and received (1847) the submission of Abd al-Kader. He was active in French politics after the February Revolution of 1848, but his opposition to Napoleon III led to his banishment (1852). In 1860, as commander of the papal army, he was routed by a superior Piedmontese force.

Saint-Pol-de-Léon (Kastell-Paol) is a commune in the Finistère department in Bretagne in northwestern France.

It is famous for its 13th century cathedral on the site of the original founded by Saint Paul Aurelian in the 6th century. It was also the scene of a battle during the Breton War of Succession, where the Montfortists and their English allies defeated an army led by Charles of Blois.
