Kumogakure ryū

Kumogakure-ryū Ninpō

Kumogakure-ryū Ninpō Happo Hiken ("The Hidden in the Clouds School") is one of the nine schools of martial arts within the Bujinkan sphere of training. It was founded in the 16th century by Heinaizaemon Ienaga Iga.

Kumogakure-ryū has special weapons including the Ippon Sugi Noburi, a kind of pick-axe, and the kamayari, or hooked spear. The unarmed techniques are similar to those of Togakure Ryu.

According to the 1968 edition of the Bugei Ryuha Daijiten, Masaaki Hatsumi is the current Sōke (head master) of the Ryu which was passed on to him by Takamatsu Toshitsugu. Soke Hatsumi does not at this time have any pupils studying this art, and Kumogakure-ryū may be in danger of extinction.
