The Krusty Krab is a
fast food restaurant in the TV series
SpongeBob SquarePants. In the show, it is the most popular
restaurant in Bikini Bottom. The restaurant is owned by
Mr. Eugene H. Krabs, and it is the workplace of
Spongebob Squarepants.
History
The Krusty Krab's building was an old retirement home that was purchased by Mr. Krabs. Originally there was a fry cook named Jim who left on account of Mr. Krab's small salary.
Menu
The food served at the Krusty Krab consists of its specialty, the famous the Krabby Patty burgers, as well as a host of other meals, with food ranging from Kelp Fries to Coral Bits to Dr Kelp (derived from the
Dr Pepper soft drink) and more, including Silly Meals. This is enough evidence that the menu is similar to that of
Checkers Drive-In (from
Driven to Tears),
McDonald's,
Burger King or its
Australian counterpart,
Hungry Jack's. They have also sold Krusty Krab pizzas in "Pizza Delivery." However, The Krusty Krab focuses on a variety of one main thing, similar to
In-N-Out Burger, with occasional references to custom orders that are made at the California-based restaurant.
Location
It is unknown where the Krusty Krab is located at in Bikini Bottom. It is usually across the street from the Chum Bucket-Plankton's suffering eatery. In most of the episodes, it is implied to be to the right of Spongebob's house (though in
Just One Bite, Squidward is shown walking to the left for the Krusty Krab).
Staff
The Krusty Krab usually has two employees:
SpongeBob SquarePants, the restaurant's
fry cook, and
Squidward Tentacles, the restaurant's cashier. Both employees have difficulties with working together: Squidward hates SpongeBob, and SpongeBob in turn exacerbates the situation by remaining completely naive toward Squidward's spiteful attitude. In one episode when Squidward and SpongeBob go on strike, they are temporarily replaced by three teenagers. Also in some episodes, Patrick has worked there. (Never more than a month) And Mr. Krabs used Patrick as a replacment for Spongebob when he was forced to go on vacation.
Competition
Plankton, the owner of the Krusty Krab's rival restaurant, The Chum Bucket, is always trying to find out the mystery ingredients for the Krabby patty formula. The Chum Bucket appears to house various laboratories, and does not mention much about a menu, only a mentioning of
"Chum-balaya" and
Chummy Joes.
