Kolaghat (কোলাঘাট) is a town situated on the banks of the Rupnarayan River in the Midnapore East district of West Bengal.
The riverside has become a popular picnic spot and is often crowded with people, particularly during the Christmas and New Year holidays. The town is notable for its Hilsa fish.

As of 2001 India
census, Kolaghat had a population of 23,707. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Kolaghat has an average literacy rate of 71%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 78%, and female literacy is 64%. In Kolaghat, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.
Economy
West Bengal Power Development Corporation Limited (
WBPDCL) of
West Bengal Government runs the 6 X 210 MW Thermal Power Station at Kolaghat. It is the largest in the state sector.
Transport
Kolaghat is on the
Golden Quadrilateral. It is 54.4 km from
Dankuni and 60.45 km from
Kharagpur. It is very easy to come here by train from Howrah.
Education
In 1998, the College of Engineering & Management, Kolaghat was set up here.
