The
Kivalina River is a 60 mile long river in the northwestern part of the
U.S. state of
Alaska, located at . It begins in the
De Long Mountains and flows southwest 96 km (60 miles) to Kivalina Lagoon in the
Chukchi Sea.
The village of Kivalina is located on a reef at the mouth of the river.
Its Inuit name was spelled "Kuveleek" by Lt. G. M. Stoney (1900, map), USN, in 1885. Present spelling adopted in 1904.
