Khatra (খাত্রা) is a sub-division of Bankura District. The Kangsabati Project for irrigation is located in this sub-division. Kangsabati dam has an important role for farmers of the districts of Bankura and Paschim Medinipur. Khatra is on the south-west part of Bankura. Pioneer "Bratachari" Guruji Gurusadaya Datta is popular here.

Health
The Khatra sub-division has a 40 per cent below poverty line population and till 2006 it did not have a subdivisional hospital. Non-availablility of water held up inauguration of the hospital premises. The subdivisional hospital was inaugurated by
Buddhadeb Bhattacharya, Chief Minister, on 18 November 2006.
Politics
Khatra is part of Ranibandh constituency (No. 246). In 2006 state assmembly elections, Deblina Hembram of CPI (M) won the seat. Maoists are active in the Ranibandh area.
Mukutmanipur is about 12 km from Khatra. Golden Jubilee of the Kangsabati movement was celebrated at Khatra on 30 and 31 August 2006.
