Kamakwie is a small town in Bombali District in the Northern Province of Sierra Leone. The population of the town was over 8,098 in 2006 estimate The population of Kamakwie is prodominantly from the Limba, Temne, and Loko ethnic groups.

Kamakwie was a scene of heavy fighting between Nigerian-lead Ecomog troups and the Revolutionary United Front (RUF); up to 15 people were killed, 90 houses were burned down, and several people had their arms or legs amputated apparently in attacks by the RUF.


Kamakwie has three primary schools and one secondary school (Kamakwie Wesleyan Seconday School).


The local hospital (Kamakwie Wesleyan Hospital) is highly regarded and known all over West Africa.
