KJMM (105.3
FM) is an
Urban Contemporary radio station serving the
Greater Tulsa area. It is owned by
Perry Broadcasting and is licensed to
Bixby, Oklahoma.
History
KJMM signed on the air in 1994 as the Urban Contemporary-formatted station for Tulsa. It was one of three original Urban stations launched with the help of Perry Broadcasting, an
African-American-based media company under the "Power Jammin'" network (
KVSP in
Oklahoma City and
KJMZ in
Lawton are the other two) at a time when the owner believed the African-American community was underserved in the radio media. Nevertheless, the station played Hip Hop, R&B, Rap and Gospel over the years and was originally called
Fresh Jamz 105. In 2004, KJMM changed its name to
105.3 K-Jamz, began carrying the
Doug Banks Morning Show -- while sending the previously-aired
Tom Joyner Morning Show to sister station
KGTO, an
Urban AC station under
ABC Radio's "The Touch" network. In December 2007, KJMM became the new affiliate of the
Los Angeles-based
Big Boy's Neighborhood, replacing Doug Banks.
