Joseph Steven Yang (born October 13, 1968) is an Asian-American actor, writer and activist.

Biography

American life

Joseph was born in Seoul, South Korea, the son of Youngshin Yang and Ho Nam Yang. In the late 70s his family immigrated to the United States in search of better educational opportunities. Along with his older brother, Jett, and his younger sister, Mimi, Joseph suffered the “slings and arrows of outrageous fortune” in the Oklahoma school system before relocating to Seattle. After studying zoology/pre-med for three and a half years at the University of Washington, Joseph took the plunge into the mysterious world of acting. Fortunately his parents did not disown him. On the contrary they were extremely supportive. This encouraged him to continue his education and explorations in the performance arts. As a scholarship student, he completed a two-year Meisner program at the prestigious Freehold Theater and received his Bachelors degree in drama from the University of Washington. After spending the next five years on various stages in Seattle, Joseph returned to UW to earn his Masters of Fine Arts degree in Acting. His work on stage and on camera has taken him to Santa Fe, Minneapolis, New York City, Bulgaria and Los Angeles. Currently residing in Los Angeles, Joseph strives to fulfill his long-term goal of creating an accredited performance arts school for the Asian American community. He is a proud member of the Screen Actors Guild and Actors Equity Association.
