Originally from Idaho (where he got his start crafting hats and costumes for rave attendees),Jared Gold got his formal education at the Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles. He left school after just two years, having landed a deal with Barneys New York in 1998. His Gothic gowns are characterized by dramatic necklines, bishop sleeves, and sweep-the-floor lengths. In 2001, Gold debuted the Black Chandelier label, a competitively priced line aimed at the ready-to-wear market, and made his New York debut that same year. Black Chandelier's models were easily recognizable, most of them were former participants in mega-hit reality TV shows, including Fox's "America's Next Top Model"; Bravo's "Project Runway"; CBS' "Survivor"; and Oxygen's "The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency." His recent collections have moved away from the dark, edgy look that once characterized his style, but have retained the high drama for the extreme that makes him a standout savage of American gothic fashion.
March 14, 2008: Jared Gold's Czarina fashion show. The event received rave reviews, with journalists going so far as referring to it as the 'show du jour' that "upped the ante" of L.A. fashion week.
This episode featured the eleven remaining contestants practicing the runway. The models' limits are put to the test as J. Alexander gets them ready to walk the runway for fashion designer Jared Gold, whose spring collection includes a wild accessory - live, giant Madagascar hissing cockroaches - and while one girl freaks out, another shows her confidence by kissing the roach on the runway. Fashion Designer Jared Gold also serves as a guest judge.
Jared is known for his close friendship with avant-garde writer Clint Catalyst and has even been described as his 'muse.' They often attend social events and fashion shows together , and Clint has worked as an event producer for some of Jared's fashion shows . In the spring 2008 collection of Gold's company, Black Chandelier, there is even a garment dedicated to/inspired by his friend: the "Clint Catalyst Tarot Card Destroyer" t-shirt .
