Jared Gold

Jared Gold (born 2 May 1972 in Idaho) is a fashion designer best known for his avant-garde American Gothic fashion.

Gold grew up in Idaho Falls and was already a child piano prodigy long before he discovered fashion design. In 1990 he attended the Piano Conservatory of Hawaii for a year and soon after took up the harpsichord. Gold trained at Los Angeles' Otis Parson's School of Design. Lead designer for fashion house Black Chandelier. Gold has been creating fashion for men women and children since 1992, and shows his collections at events in Los Angeles as well as New York City. His collections are based in antiquated imagery, and use victorian sewing details. Gold is the originator of the jewelled Giant Madagascar Hissing cockroach worn as jewelry know as the "Roach Brooch." Gold lectures to students about fashion at all levels of education and has contributed to the fashion treatise: Garb: A Fashion and Culture Reader, published by his former instructors; Kathry Hagen and Parme Giantini.

Originally from Idaho (where he got his start crafting hats and costumes for rave attendees),Jared Gold got his formal education at the Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles. He left school after just two years, having landed a deal with Barneys New York in 1998. His Gothic gowns are characterized by dramatic necklines, bishop sleeves, and sweep-the-floor lengths. In 2001, Gold debuted the Black Chandelier label, a competitively priced line aimed at the ready-to-wear market, and made his New York debut that same year. Black Chandelier's models were easily recognizable, most of them were former participants in mega-hit reality TV shows, including Fox's "America's Next Top Model"; Bravo's "Project Runway"; CBS' "Survivor"; and Oxygen's "The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency." His recent collections have moved away from the dark, edgy look that once characterized his style, but have retained the high drama for the extreme that makes him a standout savage of American gothic fashion.
