Igaratá stands adjacent to a beautiful dam, where aquatic sports and fishery is common practic among the locals and tourists. The Jaguari Dam is big, and stands between many cities (São José dos Campos, Santa Isabel, Jacareí) in the São Paulo State.
Igaratá's economy is mainly based on agriculture, because of the fertile lands bordering the Jaguari Dam. Tourism is very important to the local economy, supporting handcraft work from the local people. Cattle are also very important, thanks to the endless grasslands of the São Paulo Highlands.
