Hernández, Miguel, 1910-42, Spanish poet, b. Orihuela. A completely self-taught writer, he absorbed the influence of the poets of the Golden Age and of the generation of
García Lorca. His poetry, both tender and vigorous, reflects his own experience with war, death, and social injustice. His works include
Cancionero y romancero de ausencias (1939; tr.
Songbook of Absences, 1972).
