The Heligan estate was the ancestral home of the Tremayne family, near Mevagissey in Cornwall. The family also held property at Sydenham in Devon.
The estate was let out and then sold, after the First World War. The garden was not maintained but was rediscovered and rescued in a televised project "Lost Gardens of Heligan" in 1996 .
