Helicotrema

The helicotrema (from Greek ἕλιξ meaning coil and τρη̂μα meaning hole) is the part of the cochlear labyrinth where the scala tympani and the scala vestibuli meet. It is also known as the cochlear apex. This area best detects low frequency sounds.
