Hardcore tuning is an
alternate tuning for an
electric guitar. It is uncommon, but it is still used by
hardcore,
grindcore, and some
metalcore bands. The lowest four strings are tuned the same way as they would be in
Drop C tuning. The highest two strings, though, are tuned to A and B♭' or vice versa, depending on the guitarist's preference. The result is either C-G-C-F-A-B♭' or C-G-C-F-B♭'-A. This tuning allows the guitarist to create the harsh dissonance of the minor second interval.
