Alexander, Grover Cleveland, 1887-1950, American baseball player, b. St. Paul, Nebr. One of the great right-handed pitchers in National League history, Alexander pitched 696 games and won 373 of them, compiling a .642 winning percentage. He played for the Philadelphia Phillies (1911-17 and again in 1930), the Chicago Cubs (1918-26), and the St. Louis Cardinals (1926-29). Alexander was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1938.
