Gimik

Gimik is a youth-oriented drama series patterned after Beverly Hills, 90210 that aired between 15 June 1996 and 10 February 1999 in ABS-CBN. It rivaled VIVA's T.G.I.S. which airs in the rival channel GMA.

Gimik originally aired on 4 pm, Saturdays. Gimik's original cast consisted of members of Star Magic Batch 1 and 2 except Judy Ann Santos. As years passed some of the original characters left and some came back and some new ones were added. The show became a training ground for Star Magic Talents.

The series was created as part of ABS-CBN's 50th anniversary offering. It was ABS-CBN's first youth-oriented show which spawned shows like: G-mik, Tabing Ilog and Abt Ur Luv.

The Gimik Barkada

The group is composed of 10 young individuals with different lifestyles. Dianne Villaruel (Judy Ann Santos) is an only child. A medical student who drives her own car whenever she goes to school or gimmicks. She is an only daughter of a famous interior designer and successful businessman . Aside from being a bubbly teener, she is also a good daughter. She has a bestfriend since kindergarten named Gina de leon (G. Toengi) who happens to live with her grandmother. Gina is a textiling major and an older sister of Carlo (Patrick Garcia). Ricky Salveron is a marketing major. He happens to be the only son of two rich doctors. Of course, he plays an important part in Dianne's life since he happens to be Dianne's crush since high school . Actually Ricky and Dianne were childhood friends. When Ricky transferred to the subdivision he's residing at present, Dianne was the very person he got to know. Of course, Ricky has a bestfriend named Gary Ballesteros (Diether Ocampo) who comes from a broken family. He stopped studying so that he can work fulltime, at the same time, he dreads the fact that his mother has a boyfriend. Dianne, Gina, Ricky and Gary likes to watch vhs. So they usually go to a videoshop where Melanie Suntay (Mylene Dizon) works part time . She is a nursing student who was granted a scholarship in Manila. Melanie happens to be the daughter of farmers who lives at Nueva Ecija. She lives in a house owned by Kakai Marquez's (Kaye Abad) father. At the same time she also acts as a big sister to Kakai, who is in the age of experimenting together with her bestfriend Andy Cuyugan (Andrea Blaesi). On the other hand, the two remaining ka-tropa are Jigs Mercado (Diego Castro), an asthmatic guy with a protective mother. He is madly in love with Dianne and has plans of pursuing her. He has a bestfriend named Joey Fajardo (Marvin Agustin) who is suffering the middle child syndrome. He is also a computer buff .
