The
Geumho River flows through
North Gyeongsang Province,
South Korea, and drains into the
Nakdong River. It rises in western
Pohang, covering 116 kilometers before ending its course in western
Daegu. It drains an area of more than 2,000
square kilometers. Notable tributaries include the
Sincheon, which flows north through Daegu. The name
Geumho-gang means "river of the
zither-shaped lake," a reference to its
oxbow curve in northern Daegu. Much of the river shore in Daegu has been transformed into parkland.
Pollution
Guemho river has been one of the dirtiest ruivers in whole South Korea. There was more important point that Geumho river is tributary of Nakdong river.
The reason of pollution lied in complex where producers make dying related goods. Because of polluted water by coloring matter, the metting point of two river was seriously sick of its bad smell. At that time, the grade got down 3th grade which must not be used by several usuage.
Many regions complainted its pollution getting water problems lying the development Wicheon complex. Its concern even accused to Supreme court.
Regional environment office of Daegu reported ecological plan of gettong better quality of water around whole rivers in 2008. Newly-made blueprint covered improvement of circulation of water and ecosystem.
Event
In 2006, festival take place around Nakdong and Geumho river under the subject of Life&Human.
