Garvaghey (Garbh Achaidh) The Rough Field) is a hamlet situated in County Tyrone about 5 miles from Ballygawley and 11 miles from Omagh. It consists of a small number of houses with a number of new developments in progress, there is a local primary school St. Matthews, a local public house Kelly's Inn, a local shop and Chapel also called St. Matthews.

There are a number of local businesses situated around Garvaghey also, Classic Marble, O' Hanlons Engineering, Fortress Systems, Tyrone Trailer Centre, Kellys Inn and Mac's Auto Repairs.

New Gaelic Athletic Association Training Complex to be confirmed for Garvaghey to be developed, which may include six playing pitches, changing facilities, an Astroturf floodlit facility, indoor hurling alley, gymnasium, an administrative headquarters, and other training amenities.

History

The Poet John Montague was born in New York (28 February 1929) and was brought up in Garvaghey, County Tyrone. He has published a number of volumes of poetry, two collections of short stories and a memoir. He is one of the best known Irish contemporary poets. In 1998 he became the first occupant of the Ireland Chair of Poetry.
