Hunt received his law degree from Columbia Law School in 1965.
Hunt is notable because he volunteered to serve as a pro bono attorney for a captive held in extrajudicial detention in the United States Guantanamo Bay detention camps, in Cuba. Hunt is the lawyer for Pakistani Guantanamo captive Saifullah Paracha. Hunt contacted the human rights group Human Rights First, who, in addition to the Center for Constitutional Rights was coordinating the efforts of the lawyers volunteering to help the Gauntanamo captives.
