Folk idol

Folk Idol, a tongue-in-cheek take on the Pop Idol franchise, is an annual live event in London run by music promotion agency The Local. Contestants are required to wear a beard and play covers of two folk songs, after which they are judged by a panel of experts. Judges' points are combined with audience applause to get the final score for each participant. The first folk idol was covered on BBC Radio 4's Today programme.

Previous winners include Emma Tricca, John Smith and Left with Pictures, with contestants including Congregation, RG Morrisson, Annie Windley, The Straw Bear Band, brody & quint, and Candythief.
