SPJIMR offers a two year PGDM and a one year PGPM program, both equivalent to an MBA degree. Other programs include PGDSM-MIT (in association with Virginia Tech), Family Managed Business (FMB) and an Executive Management Program (EMP - similar to EMBA). The institute also offers various short term courses for specialized needs.
SPJIMR is one of the very few Management Institutions to have achieved the 'A' grade status of accreditation by the National Board of Accreditation in 2003.
The institute has also recently started two international campuses, one in Dubai (2004) and the other in Singapore (2006), managed under the name SP Jain Center of Management (SPJCM). A high-end fulltime Global MBA program and a two year Executive MBA program is offered in these campuses.
Inaugurated in 1981 by the then British Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, SPJIMR had modest beginnings as a small extension of the Bhavan's campus (of Bhartiya Vidhya Bhavan). The institute was among the only three business schools of India at that time. The institute was disaffiliated from the then Bombay University, to provide it with more freedom in terms of curriculum decision making, pedagogic innovations and program pioneering.
Throughout its history, the institute has an enviable track record of recognizing the needs of the society, especially the under managed sectors, responding with quick and appropriate solutions. The institute has kept influencing practice and promoting value base growth as its guiding philosophy.
The aim of this programme is to develop appropriate skills in the candidates and the right attitude to enable them to manage modern enterprises. As the candidates have none or relatively few years of industry experience, the programme emphasizes on the need to develop an ability to translate theory into practice.
The programme considers CAT, XAT and GMAT scores for admission, but unlike some other institutions, it places more emphasis on academic performance, versatility in extra-curricular activities and relevant work experience (if any).
The programme, now in the 25th year, has a number of successful alumni in various senior positions across the industry. The progamme has been approved by AICTE.
The mission of the programme is to create and nurture value-based future leaders taking on higher management roles in transforming organizations. The programme admits working professionals from various domains and leading industries, to enable knowledge sharing and peer learning. The unique aspect of the programme is its focus on the specific role and domain of interest to the participant. Still, it also aims at producing Versatilists as againsts Generalists and Specialists.
The programme considers CAT, XAT and GMAT scores for admission, but unlike some other institutions, it places more emphasis on academic performance, versatility in extra-curricular activities and a minimum work experience of 5 years.
The programme, now in the 5th year of commencement, has successfully placed a number of professionals into senior and middle management roles like Senior Business Analyst, Knowledge Specialist, Project Manager, Programme Manager, Business Development Manager, Technical Manager, Chief Manager, Sr. IT Consultant, Functional Consultant, Sr. Supply Chain Consultant and Research Analyst.
The aim of this program is to develop a reservoir of versatile executives with functional knowledge and a general management perspective, to meet the emerging business challenges.
The programme considers graduates with minimum 5 years of experience along with a good track record. The programme mandates the support of the candidate's company.
The duration of the program is 2 years and includes a foreign visit. The participants spent a week at the institute to learn and the remaining three weeks of the month at their workplace, to apply the learning. The duration of Owner Manager Programme is only twelve months.
The programme considers graduate candidates with a significant stake in a family business. Selection requires sponsorship from the business, a test and a personal interview.
The programme is now in the 12 year of running.
