Erie is a Statutory Town in Boulder and Weld counties in the U.S. state of Colorado. The population was 6,291 at the 2000 census.

Erie is located west of I-25 35 minutes from Denver International Airport, 25 minutes north of Denver and 15 minutes from Boulder.

In the southern part of Erie, on Baseline Road, is Erie Municipal Airport.

Geography

Erie is located at (40.040369, -105.057659).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 9.5 square miles (24.7 km²), of which, 9.5 square miles (24.5 km²) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.2 km²) of it (0.84%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 6,291 people, 2,199 households, and 1,743 families residing in the town. The population density was 665.3 people per square mile (256.8/km²). There were 2,282 housing units at an average density of 241.3/sq mi (93.1/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 89.73% White, 0.43% African American, 0.65% Native American, 2.73% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 4.07% from other races, and 2.35% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 11.00% of the population.

There were 2,199 households out of which 45.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 70.7% were married couples living together, 5.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 20.7% were non-families. 13.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 1.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.86 and the average family size was 3.18.

In the town the population was spread out with 30.3% under the age of 18, 5.1% from 18 to 24, 43.8% from 25 to 44, 17.3% from 45 to 64, and 3.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 101.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 101.2 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $77,114, and the median income for a family was $79,892. Males had a median income of $52,112 versus $37,271 for females. The per capita income for the town was $30,625. About 1.1% of families and 2.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 2.6% of those under age 18 and none of those age 65 or over.
