The 28th Dáil was elected at the 1997 general election on 6 June 1997 and dissolved on 25 April 2002.This Act replaced the Electoral (Amendment) Act 1990 (No. 36/1990), which defines the constituencies used for the 27th Dáil (1992-1997). It was itself replaced by the Electoral (Amendment) (No. 2) Act 1998 (No. 19/1998), which created a new pattern of constituencies for the 29th Dáil (elected 2002).
