The studio was started in July 2000 by Jeremy Wellard, a developer from the UK who formally worked for Audiogenic and Codemasters. It is located in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia.

HB Studios opened the doors to their second studio in January 2008. It is located in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
