Drew Macias

Andres Apolomo "Drew" Macias (born March 7, 1983 in Fontana, California) is an American professional baseball player for the San Diego Padres. An outfielder, Macias made his Major League Baseball in for the Padres. He is widely regarded as an excellent defensive center fielder.

Career

Macias played at Chaffey Junior College and was drafted in the 35th round by the Padres in June and signed on May 18, . He hit .251 with the Idaho Falls Padres in the Pioneer League in 2003 He spent with Low-A Fort Wayne where he hit .266 with eight homers and 55 RBI in 129 games. He also walked 49 times and struck out 68 times. In , he played at High-A Lake Elsinore and hit .289 with 23 doubles, six triples, six homers, and 66 RBI in 128 games.

Macias moved up to Double-A in with the Mobile Bay Bears and hit .256 with 7 homers, and was was named to the Southern League All-Star team. He was promoted to the Triple-A Portland Beavers in and hit .282, and was called up to San Diego on September 27, after injuries to Milton Bradley and Mike Cameron left the Padres thin in the outfield.

In , Macias went back to Double-A with the San Antonio Missions, where he hit .288, scored 92 runs, and drew a career high 83 walks. Macias was again called up to San Diego on September 6, .
