Founded the Public Art Fund of the City of New York in 1977 by consolidating CityWalls and Public Arts Council (which she founded).
"A champion of public art for many years, Doris C. Freedman served as New York City's first Director of Cultural Affairs during the Lindsay Administration, President of the Municipal Art Society, and was a tireless supporter of New York City's Percent for Art legislation.
Currently, her daughter, Susan K. Freedman, is President of the Public Art Fund.
