Dominic "Dom" Reilly is a fictional character on the long-running Channel 4 British television soap opera Hollyoaks.

He is played by actor John Pickard. His first appearance was September 13, 2005.

Character history

Introduction

Dominic is the long-lost brother of Tony. Dominic and Tony have only just found out they are brothers; they previously believed they were cousins. At first, Tony had disliked Dom because Dom used to bully Tony when they were younger. Tony initially struggled with the revelation of the relationship but soon came to accept it.

Mandy

Dom was a shoulder for Mandy to cry on since Grace's death and supported her much better than Tony, thus leading to Mandy realising she had feelings towards Dom.

Mandy left Tony but kept in contact with Dom. When Tony found this out he threw Dom out, Dom then returned to pick up clothes for Mandy, but decided against Mandy's wishes not to reveal her whereabouts to Tony, and told Tony where he could meet her, previously where Mandy had arranged to meet Dom so they could run off together. Tony met Mandy, and they talked, finally coming to the conclusion that it was probably for the best that they didn't see each other again, largely Mandy's decision. Tony was left in tears but slowly gets back to normality.

Mandy asked Dom to leave town with her, but he declined, due to loyalty towards his brother.

Courtship, Marriage to Tina McQueen

Dom started a relationship with Tina McQueen after they bonded over classic literature. Soon they confessed to each other they are both virgins. They were both mild-mannered and awkward, causing their attempts at intimacy to be a struggle, including one moment where she accidentally bloodied his nose as he tried to take off her sweater. Eventually they made love, and were happy, aside from a brief period where he contracted an STD from her (she had gotten it from sharing towels with her mother) and assumed she was cheating on him with Mike Barnes. Not long afterwards, they tried to spice up their relationship, only to cause Michaela and Carmel to think he was sleeping with Kathy Barnes (since he called Tina "Cathy" in their private rendezvous). In spring 2007, Dom proposed to Tina using a crossword puzzle.

When Max Cunningham was named as a prime suspect in the attempt on his ex-wife Clare's life after she was pushed from the balcony in the Loft in June 2007, Dom was able to prove that Max was not involved in the attack, as he and Tony had seen Max in his flat around the time of the incident. Both of them had tried to persuade Max to come out for a drink for Dom's stag night that evening; but Max, traumatised by Tom being taken into care by Social Services because of a cruel trick by Clare, had refused to leave the flat and locked himself in. Tina had also seen Max leaving the Loft before the attack as he was asked to do so by Warren, because he had tried to confront Clare about Tom being taken into care. When Dom and Tony relayed this information during the police investigation, Max was released without any charges being brought against him.

Just before their wedding Tina found out about his old feelings for Mandy and didn't speak to him. But on the actual big day the two did wed after Louise burst in and announced that Mercedes slept with Warren on the night Clare was pushed.

Marriage Woes

Due to a lack of "snuggle time", Dom and Tina moved from her mother's house to his brother's flat. Dom became friendly with Tina's boss Pete Webster. When Tina told Dom that Pete had been sexually harassing her, Dom didn't believe her. After Russ Owen saved Tina from being raped by Pete, Tina slept with him. She had no interest in pursuing the relationship further, but she also decided her marriage to Dom was over. He went to France over Christmas for a historical society, and she had no idea when he would return.

One of the other reasons Dom and Tina became estranged was Dom forbidding Tina to carry a child for his brother and her sister, Jacqui. While he was in France, Tina got inseminated. When he returned, she told him what she had done and she refused to have an abortion. Dom went to confront Tony and claimed this was to get back at him because of what had happened with Mandy. Tony denied Dom's accusations and blasted him for not being a husband to Tina when she had needed him. Dom punched Tony, bloodying his nose, and stormed out of the flat. The next day, Dom begged Tony to convince Tina to have an abortion, but Tony refused. Dom wept in his arms.

With further thought, Dom decided to accept Tina's decision and they reconciled. However, as much as he supported Tina's wishes, he couldn't bring himself to be intimate with her, as all he could think of was her carrying his brother's child.

His insecurities only further worsened when he was accosted by a gang of teenage girls and had to be saved by Russ.
