Desaiganj is a city and a
municipal council in the
Gadchiroli district of the state of
Maharashtra,
India.
Demographics
As of the 2001 Indian census, Desaiganj had a population of 24,786. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Desaiganj has an average literacy rate of 69%, higher than the national average of 59.5%. Male literacy is 77%; female literacy is 62%. In Desaiganj, 13% of the population is under 6 years of age.
The famous Lalani family traces its origins to this village.
The town is situated on the banks of river Vainganga and is an agriculture dominated.
Economics
This is a typical Indian village that mainly relies on farming. The crops produced here are wheat, different types of lentils, cotton, sunflower, groundnut, oranges, soybeans etc. There are many small scale industries cropping up. This region is known for the Lalani saw mill and the Lalani rice mills. The rice produced is exported to various parts of the country including
Gujarat,
Tamil Nadu etc. Rice is also exported to neighbouring countries such as
Nepal.
