Dendrochirotida are an order of sea cucumber. Members of this type have branched tentacles and are suspension feeders. Examples are Thyonella and Cucumaria.
Cucumaria echinata, found in the Bay of Bengal, is known to produce a lectin that has the ability to block the development of Plasmodium, the causal agent of malaria, when it is expressed in genetically modified Anophelesmosquitoes.
