Dead Sea Works

The Dead Sea Works (מפעלי ים המלח) is a major industry on the shores of the Dead Sea in Israel. The company operates in the southern basin of the Sea, where it has a series of large evaporation ponds. These produce potash, which is exported around the world for various uses.

History

Following the 1948 Israeli War of Independence, Moshe Novomeysky's Palestine Potash Company Ltd. was nationalised by the Israeli government under the Ministry of Development, and renamed the Dead Sea Works in 1952.
