Czaszyn is a Polish
village in the
Sanok County in the
East Małopolska in the
Lesser Beskid mountains. The Roman Catholic church (parish of p.w. Podwyższenia Krzyża Świętego) for the village of Czaszyn was located in that same village. It's diocesan was located in
Przemyśl.
History
Czaszyn about 10 miles from
Sanok in south-eastern Poland. It is situated below the main watershed at the foot of the
Słonne Mountain, and has an elevation of 270 meters. Situated in the
Subcarpathian Voivodship (since 1999), previously in
Krosno Voivodship (1975-1998) and
Sanok district, (10 miles east of Sanok), located near the towns of
Medzilaborce and
Palota (in northeastern
Slovakia).
Czaszyn was founded in 1450 by Tarnawskis family. During 966 - 1018 and 1340 - 1772 (Ruthenian Voivodeship) and during 1918 - 1939 Czaszyn was part of Poland. While during 1772 - 1918 it belonged to Austrian empire, later Austrian-Hungarian empire when double monarchy was introduced in Austria. The masonry church was built and blessed in 1835, it replaced an old wooden church. Church was "Translation of Saint Nicholas", buit in 1835, still standing. The church was destroyed in 1946. Some people left Czaszyn on April 29, 1947 (Akcja Wisla) and
moved to the Gdansk area of Poland. Some people went to Ukraine in 1946. The village was burned down 1946 by the UPA. In 1785 the village lands comprised 15.66 km². There were 4600 Catholics. This part of Poland was controlled by Austria for almost 120
years. At that time the area (including west and east of Subcarpathian Voivodship) was known as Galicia.

municipality lies at an
altitude of 270
metres and covers an
area of 10,6617 km². It has a
population of about 1410 people.
